When I worked on the movie, it was going to be an entirely silent movie and no human characters. The ship was
alien, and the characters and architecture--everything--was alien in design. It was a typically challenging
Pixar movie, unlike any other project I had worked on before. Month after month I explored ideas for
this alien culture, as well as how the Earth trash piles could be designed.
